We were thrilled to welcome Emily Craig MBE, British women’s lightweight double sculls Olympic champion and three-time world champion rower, to The Prep.
Emily shared her remarkable story, from discovering rowing at 12 through the British Indoor Rowing Championships to setting her sights on Olympic success. After winning a silver medal, she joined Bewl Bridge Rowing Club, determined to reach the highest level. A three-time World Champion and two-time European Champion, Emily made history by claiming Olympic gold at Paris 2024.
She also spoke about the heartbreak of Tokyo 2020, where she missed out on a medal by just 0.01 seconds in an agonising photo finish and sharing with pupils how, rather than dwelling on the disappointment, she turned that moment into her driving force – hanging a picture of the finish on her wall as a daily reminder of her goal for Paris 2024.
After her talk, pupils had the fantastic opportunity to refine their technique with Emily on our rowing machines, which are now a huge hit in PE lessons and our ever popular Friday Rowing Club.
Thank you Emily for inspiring us all.
