Weekly Round Up 22nd November

Dear Parents

I hope you are all well.

It is always good to hear the views of The Prep’s community and this term we have had Parent Forum, Student Council and Staff Council.  On Wednesday, we welcomed our governors onto site for a planning day.  A friend of mine always tells me that “feedback is the breakfast of champions” and, whilst I tell him he sounds like David Brent, I do value hearing the voices that make up our community and the ideas that will enable The Prep to evolve and improve.

Well done to all our Year 6 pupils who have sat entrance assessments this term!  I know some of you still have a few more to go but you all deserve a day out and I know you are all looking forward to your trip to Harry Potter World later this month.

Life at school continues to be busy!  The focus of “Anti-Bullying Week” was respect and inclusion, which tied in well to the themes of this term’s weekly assemblies.  Pre-Prep are busy with Nativity rehearsals and Years 7 and 8 are gearing up for the senior play: “The Roses of Eyam”.  On the sporting front, our U11 hockey team enjoyed success at the recent county In2Hockey tournament; read on to see profiles of two of the coaches from Sevenoaks Hockey Club who have been working with our players over the course of this term.  There have been a series of chess matches recently and it has been great to see our teams enjoying the competition and experience – I am hoping that my festive chess battles with family members will benefit from having watched the skills of the pupils!

Best wishes

Dear Parents and Guardians,

What a wonderful Anti-Bullying Week we had! Thank you to all our families for embracing the activities and joining in the celebrations. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the theme of Respect throughout the week, and it was heartwarming to see so many odd socks worn last Tuesday in recognition and celebration of our differences. A huge thank you goes to Miss Owen for organising this fantastic event – it was a brilliant success!

Despite the excitement of nativity rehearsals, the children have been working incredibly hard in their classrooms. I have had the pleasure of visiting many of them and have been amazed by the progress they have made since the start of the academic year. This week, I particularly enjoyed spending time with our Year 1 children during their maths lessons. They impressed me with their work on the part-whole model, using it to write their own number sentences, complete with all the correct signs and numbers – such clever mathematicians!

Looking ahead, we have an exciting and busy week, culminating in our much-anticipated nativity productions on Friday. I am sure the performances will be a wonderful way to mark the start of the festive season and I look forward to seeing many of you there.

Wishing you all a restful weekend.

Warm regards,

Helen Cook
