We had the most wonderful time celebrating World Book Day this year. We started the day with a whole school assembly, complete with a wonderful parade, celebrating everyone’s character costumes and there have been lots of book-themed activities happening at school.
Classes have been busy decorating their classroom doors with a book theme such as George’s Marvelous Medicine, Willy Wonka, James and the Giant Peach, Little Red Riding Hood and The Tiny Seed. In the Pre-Prep we held a ‘reading picnic’ in the hall, with blankets, pillows, fairy lights and music; it was lovely for all of the children to share their favourite books with their friends. Meanwhile, Year 2 spent the afternoon making potions from George’s Marvellous Medicine … it got quite messy! And Year 3 took part in a live lesson with author Sarah Bowie and learnt how to draw characters from her new book ‘Nina Peanut is Amazing!’
The theme this year was ‘Read Your Way’. Research shows that developing positive attitudes towards reading can play a key role in a child’s development.
