Last week, 16 of our Grade 1 and above orchestra members headed to King’s School Rochester for a fun space themed orchestra day. They were excited to play 2 pieces, Mars by Gustav Holst and the iconic Dr Who theme tune, complete with a theremin.
They started the day breaking down each piece and honing their sight-reading skills to familiarise themselves with the music. They then divided into their instrument families – Strings, Brass & Woodwind – to perfect their individual parts. After lunch all the musicians joined together and performed the pieces as a 72 strong orchestra which sounded wonderful.
