Health

From the School Nurse...

My name is Lisa Nix, I am a trained nurse and a midwife as well as a Prep Mum. I can be contacted at school.nurse@theprep.org.uk

My duties are to:

  • look after the children when they do not feel very well, or if they are hurt in the playground or playing sport.
  • manage allergy related issues with children
  • help educate the staff on health issues
  • update staff and children on topical health issues
  • teach some of the classes about life skills and relationship issues.

Topics

In the Autumn Term I focused on hygiene with the children and how germs are spread from person to person. Hopefully this helped them to think about how they can play a part in preventing the flu virus amongst others from spreading around the school. We also covered Diabetes.

This term we are covering Life Skills which includes SRE (Sexual & Relationship Education) for Forms 5 -8 and Alcohol concerns.
Our SRE programme has been prepared specifically for Sevenoaks Prep by myself and Prep Mum and health professional Yoan Reed. The programme is based on government guidelines but taking into account area specific differences (our children do not need the same level of information that would be relevant to an inner city state school). Each year group receives age appropriate information and the classes will be run by Yoan and I in conjunction with the teaching staff. For more information and specific lesson content please go to the secure parents area.
If you were unable to attend the SRE Information Evenings please pop into the office and pick up a pack. If you have any concerns on any health related issues please do contact me.
