Learning Support
Many pupils require support at some stage in their school career. The Learning Support Department at Sevenoaks Prep consists of a team of teachers and classroom assistants skilled in delivering support to pupils who have the underlying aptitude to follow a broad prep school curriculum and who in addition have specific learning difficulties or disabilities. Many students who receive support qualify as being ‘dual-exceptional’ i.e.those who have a high level of academic ability or a highly developed talent as well as a specific learning difference or disability.
Prospective pupils are screened for specific learning difficulties prior to being offered a place at the school. This enables us to anticipate and plan for their needs, if applicable, before their arrival at the school. All pupils follow a full curriculum although older pupils may opt at a later stage to study only one of the two modern foreign languages on offer in order to generate more time for their Learning Resource work.
Our ethos is to make learning support as enjoyable and as much a part of everyday school life as possible. Learning support is delivered in a variety of formats to suit the needs of the child, including individual, paired and group activities, in-class support, use of specialist computer programmes and clubs, including Movement for Learning and Fizzy Clubs. If necessary we can also call on a range of specialists who visit the school and provide services to our pupils as required.
As with any aspect of school life, communication is vital and we believe that the best results are always achieved when parents and school work closely together.
