Throughout our long history, the pupils at Sevenoaks Prep and the school itself have benefitted daily from the many gifts which have been made to the school by the alumni, parents and other friends. These range from parents giving up their weekends to help with manual labour, to donations of modest everyday items, and financial contributions to large developments.
The first Hall, for example, was a Wilshire hut which was a gift from a Prep family in 1979. The foundations for it were laid by 17 Prep dads during the course of a weekend, and its interior decoration was completed by a number of families during Mr Oatley's 36 hour painting marathon.
In 2000, when planning permission for our current Hall was granted, many families came to the school one weekend to help with the demolition of the old huts to make way for the contruction of the Hall.
In more recent times, generosity has helped with the play equipment in the Junior School playground, the refurbishment of the junior and senior libraries, and the major building program in 2014 which has seen four new classrooms being built for Kindergarten and Reception pupils.
It is an unquestionable fact that Sevenoaks Prep would not be what it is today without this tradition of generosity. There is a history of giving.
At The Prep, all of our operational profit is ploughed back into the fabric of the school but it is not enough to do much more than refurbish tired areas or departments. If the school wants to embark on any significant building programs we need external finance without burdening ourself with debt.
In your time her, you may have, unbeknown to you at the time, benefitted from the gifts of previous generations. In turn, you may now feel it is your turn to do the same for the children at Sevenoaks Prep today and in the future.
HOW TO DONATE
There are a number of different ways to make a gift to the school. For UK taxpayers, many of these can also be tax-efficient:
- Leaving a legacy. You can remember the school in your will.
- Making a regular donation. You can choose to make a regular donation by standing order. If you choose to set this up yourself, please notify us of your decision. Alternatively, you can download and return this gift form and we will arrange it on your behalf.
- Make a one-off payment. You can make a single payment by cheque, payable to Sevenoaks Prep Development Fund. Donations can also be made via our portal on The Big Give. As a charity, we are able to claim gift aid on donations.
- Matched payment schemes. Some companies operate a matched payment scheme. It is worth checking with your human resources department whether such a scheme is in operation, as this can double or triple the value of your gift.
